Middle School
Middle School
At Discovery Falcon, our Middle School program is a dynamic, rigorous learning environment led by highly skilled, multi-credentialed teachers. Designed to challenge, inspire, and empower students, the program combines academic depth with creativity, hands-on exploration, project-based learning, and student voice.
Our approach is grounded in the belief that engagement in meaningful learning creates opportunities for students to think critically, to understand themselves as capable learners, and to thrive socially and emotionally.
We recognize that the middle school years are a period of significant cognitive and physical development. At Discovery Falcon, we strive to support young adolescents with understanding and excitement as they transition from childhood into adolescence, engaging in the important work of exploring who they are becoming and who they aspire to be in the world.
-
Our small class sizes and relationship-based teaching approach are designed to meet the unique needs of young adolescents. This allows us to truly know our students and support them in gaining confidence on their learning journey.
We believe it is essential to respond to young adolescents with acceptance and empathy, creating an environment where they feel seen, supported and empowered to grow.

The Discovery Falcon Middle School implements a student-centered approach to learning and teaching. Students and teachers collaborate to create a personalized learning path that reflects the individual needs and interests of each student.
In our classrooms, students take ownership of their learning through active collaboration with teachers and peers. They are supported in having a voice in their learning process and are encouraged to analyze, critique, and gain an understanding of the world.
By offering students curated choices in how and what they learn, we foster engagement, inclusion and competence. -
Project-based and hands-on learning are at the heart of Discovery Falcon Middle School’s philosophy. Rather than traditional lectures and tests, students work on inquiry-based projects, providing engagement in complex, real-world problems.
Meaningful writing and reading assignments are integrated into every project, and teachers design projects to address educational standards across subject matter for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
We believe students are best prepared for success when given opportunities to solve problems, develop and test solutions, and share their learning through a variety of culminating documentation processes - presentations, podcasts, visual representations, and other creative student-driven expressions.
Students deepen their understanding through direct involvement. This approach not only strengthens knowledge retention, but also builds their ability to apply that new knowledge to new situations. We have found that project-based, hands-on learning fosters success in both the present learning journey as well as in any future academic challenges.
-
Intensives in the Middle School program are designed to give students the opportunity to delve into specialized, teacher-led units focused on inquiry, creativity, real-world relevance, and targeted skill development. These sessions promote cross-grade collaboration, encouraging students to explore topics in depth and build a deeper understanding that extends beyond traditional performance-based learning.
In the Falcon Middle School Electives Program, parent participation takes on the role of mentorship. Our parent-led electives inspire creativity, critical thinking, and practical skills, while also strengthening community connections and supporting the development of lifelong interests.
-
Exploring the world is an integral part of the Discovery Falcon Middle School experience. Day-long field trips are thoughtfully planned to support projects and learning happening in the classroom. Interacting with the natural beauty of our region reflects our belief in the importance of students experiencing the natural world. We plan Nature Days throughout the year, giving students the chance to get outside, explore and connect with nature.
Each grade in our Middle School also goes on an overnight trip. This is an amazing learning experience that encourages personal growth beyond the classroom. These experiences give students the opportunity to develop independence and to bond with teachers, parents and peers all while fostering a sense of community that lasts beyond the school year.
-
We are more than a school—we are a lifelong learning community where students, families, and educators learn and grow together. By prioritizing relationships, creativity, and student voice, we prepare children not just for the next grade, but for life.
